Varpaisjärvi black diabase is a beautiful, fine grained and evenly black stone. Geologically it is a diabase. Currently it is one of the most chosen headstone materials. Aside from a polished black surface one can tease beautiful colors out of the stone by honing, flaming, bush hammering or pitching the surface.
